playing tunes out of the real book.

Earl Grant - the "Count Basie" of the Hammond & my early inspiration.
I was taught basic music theory and organ skills at an
early age. Yet, I still spent over 20 hours each on these tunes before I could drive, as well as a few others to
learn what he was doing stylistically and harmonically.
This was my early education in advanced harmonic
structures, aka "playing the right chords". In this style, that
meant mostly 9's and 13's, and b9's and b13's. The #9's
and #11's came later.
September in the Rain ...this and the next were always two of my fav's
On Green Dolphin Street ...sweet sax solo
Swingin' Gently ...what a 45 rpm looked like back in the old days
Ebb Tide ...these days it may sound corny, but it was his biggie on the
the Ed Sullivan Show around 1961.
